Zeldin was one of the majority of the Climate Caucus Republicans who voted to reject even discussing the idea. Fortunately this rejection has no real world impact and only expresses the general Republican consensus that a carbon tax would be detrimental to the United States economy.

Virtually every administration since the 1970s has supported legislation to improve the environment. The backward shift in environmental policy by the current administration is unprecedented and unparalleled in the inevitable negative toll it will take on air and water quality and on climate change. The agency entrusted with protecting our environment is enabling its destruction. Scientists, political leaders, and the general public need to speak up loud and clear to put the brakes on the continued dismantling of environmental protections under the guise of deregulation. Kudos to you, Perry Gershon, for taking a strong stand on this issue and for making it front and center in your campaign.
